Augusto Polo Campos, Jr.

A working professional actor, Augusto Polo Campos, Jr. was born in Lima, Peru, in a typical middle class family. Augusto, the son of the famous songwriter/producer Augusto Polo Campos, had his introduction into show business at a very early age. At 8 months, he portrayed baby Jesus, in a nativity scene produced by Panamericana Television, one of Peru’s leading networks. As a young child, he often accompanied his father to music studios to witness recordings of his father’s latest music as well as television show tapings and theater rehearsals.  The continued exposure to the music and stage sparked within him an interest and deep appreciation for the arts.  While in elementary school, Augusto was a member of the Hans Christian Anderson Boys Choir, which traveled throughout the capital to perform at various private and public events. He also had small acting roles in the various television shows that his father was producing at the time.

At age 11, Augusto moved to the United States with his mother. He continued to study the arts and his efforts were rewarded with parts in several of his school’s plays and musical productions.  Augusto became a member of Dance Arts, a dance academy, while he was still attending high school and participated in over a dozen recitals, ranging from Ballet, Jazz and Disco.  By the time he had graduated high school, Augusto had participated in dozens of theatrical and musical productions.

Augusto eventually moved to Hollywood to study Television and Film Production. After graduating, Augusto worked on the production of many films, commercials, and music videos.  He worked his way up from Production Assistant, to Director and Producer.

In 1988 he attended the Van Mar Academy of Motion Picture and Television Acting, under the tutelage of Ivan Markota to learn the art, the business and the craft of acting.

To date, Augusto has done over a dozen commercials for such sponsors as “Macy’s”, “Jack in the Box”, “Coors”, and “MCI” among others.  He has starred in several independent motion pictures, some of which he co-produced.  His television credits include co-starring roles in NBC’s daytime soap “Days of Our Lives”, Sony/Telemundo’s production “Angeles”, Showtime’s ”Resurrection Blvd”, Fox’s “Rosarito Weekend” and others.

Augusto is now embarking on a singing career.  While Augusto has a deep appreciation for many types of music, he has long wanted to pay a special tribute to the music and lyrics of his father and share his fond personal memories of the many hours he had spent listening as a young boy in a studio, while his father created some of the most loved music in Peru. “It is something that I have always wanted to do, something I felt I needed to do and something that I feel extremely honored to be able to do.”

Augusto’s father, the multi-talented and award winner Augusto Polo Campos, Sr.’s has a career spanning over 50 years.  His songs have been recorded and sung by international musical stars such as Julio Iglesias, Raphael, Celia Cruz, Marco Antonio Muniz, Emmanuel, Los Panchos, Armando Manzanero, Libertad Lamarque, Pedro Vargas, Perez Prado, Lucha Villa, Joan Manuel Serrat and others.
